GDK Annual Conference

PROJECT OVERVIEW

German Doner Kebab (GDK) is an international kebab chain. For the fourth consecutive year, Conference Craft was chosen as the event production company for GDK’s Annual Conference.

Working alongside Abby Fisher from Insight MCL to deliver the event at the Vox in Birmingham, this conference required us to lead the venue’s technical team in executing our concept for the event.

THE BRIEF & OBJECTIVES

The client’s vision was to create a motivational experience that energised managers, franchisees and suppliers. The brief demanded a dynamic event over the course of three days.

High-Energy Atmosphere: The event needed to shift between a number of different activities.

Brand Integration: The company’s branding required seamless integration throughout the venue and the various activities.

Cohesive Experience: The event needed to serve three very different audiences.

The Challenge: Multiple Events in One

The challenge lay in executing a dynamic event aimed at managers, franchisees, and suppliers, with one day dedicated to each group. In addition, we collaborated on and provided equipment for the two-day expo, where all suppliers were able to exhibit their products to franchisees. The three-day event was filled with activities, including breakout groups, a GDK quiz for attendees, and a spirited Spring Roll Sprint.

OUR TECHNICAL SOLUTION

Conference Craft conceptualised a comprehensive set and backdrop, screens for the expo area, and a video wall, which created a dynamic backdrop to complement the content being presented. As most of the A/V equipment was built in at the location, we managed the venue’s team so they could flawlessly execute our technical design concept, integrating our own equipment with theirs.

EVENT SPECIFICATIONS

Lighting & Atmosphere: To highlight the company’s brand, we utilised bespoke, dynamic video walls and shaped panelling to create dynamic backdrops as the main support. Versatile lighting also reinforced the brand identity.

Technical Event Production: As with all our live events, we worked with robust audio and visual equipment to ensure clear communication during presentations. Unlike other events, we integrated our own audiovisual equipment with the venue’s built-in infrastructure.

Manager’s Rally: The second day was the most energetic, when managers engaged in interactive breakout sessions, with the winning two breakout groups going head to head on a quiz at the end of the day. Here, we provided dynamic blue/orange lighting to represent each team. Quiz time was used to implement the technical turnaround in other areas of the event.

Spring Roll Sprint: One of the events involved a dynamic competition between management to see how many spring rolls they could make in a minute. Managers arrived at the event having trained to make as many spring rolls as they could, ensuring they were both edible and sellable. So participants could view the spring roll production process, we placed overhead cameras on every table.

RESULTS

The result was a cohesive and memorable annual corporate event that delighted all attendees. By successfully integrating our decades of audiovisual experience with our practical management of the venue’s team and equipment, we ensured the GDK Annual Conference was not just a meeting, but a spectacular experience.
